Wu-Yi Tea is getting a ton of press these days and as such, it’s likely that you’ve come across advertisements for it in one shape or form lately. We’ve had a significant number of inquiries here at Diet-411 from you about this product and its veracity as a weight loss aid – so we decided to prepare this in-depth report on it for you. So first, let me say to DO NOT BUY ANY WU-YI TEA!... at least until you get a chance to read this entire report because I'm sure you’ll find it to be eye opening and informative! Wu-Yi Tea… Big Hype or Real Hope? It appears that Wu-Yi Tea has become one of the latest diet miracle products. At least that’s what it’s more ardent promoters would have you believe. ![]() Background: What’s interesting is that despite its almost spontaneous appearance on the North American weight loss scene over the last 12 months, Wu-Yi Tea has actually been used by the Chinese as a beverage and in Traditional Chinese Medicine for hundreds of years. The popularity of Wu-Yi tea is largely driven by its most often touted benefit of helping people to lose weight. Wu-Yi and Wu-Long are just of couple of the many brand names for what is generally known as oolong tea. There are many varieties of oolong tea of which Wu-Yi is one. Wu-Yi tea is one of the most famous and gets its name from the Wuyi Mountain region in the Fujian Province of China where authentic Wu-Yi tea is harvested. Does it Wu-Yi Tea actually work to reduce body fat? ![]() The Research: For centuries the Chinese have believed that Wu-Yi tea is helpful in reducing and/or maintaining weight. An easy to understand summary of the teas effect on the body can be viewed here but ultimately the theories are that it increases metabolism and/or inhibits fat adsorption in the body. These beliefs were put to the test in the following studies. Click the respective headline links to review the studies: 1) American Society for Clinical Nutrition - 1999 Title: Efficacy of a green tea
extract rich in catechin polyphenols and
caffeine in increasing 24-h energy expenditure and fat oxidation in
humans.
This study focused on the benefits of Green Teas of which family Wu-Yi Tea belongs. 2) Japanese Study - April 2001 Title: Oolong tea fights fat and
cholesterol
3) USDA Study - 2003 A PDF summary can be downloaded here. 4) Chinese Study conducted in 2003 Title: Oolong tea increases
energy
metabolism in Japanese
5) Japanese study - conducted in 2004 Title: Suppressive Effect of
Oolong Tea Polymerized
Polyphenols-enriched Oolong Tea on Postprandial Serum Triglyceride
Elevation
The Verdict Is In!... and it's great news. But don't buy that tea just yet. It seems pretty clear from the research we could find that Green Tea has significant health benefits and that Wu-Yi Tea specifically may have even greater benefits in the areas of increasing energy and aiding in weight loss. Additionally, Wu-Yi tea delivers these benefits without demonstrating any negative side effects. ![]() The Next question then becomes… Is Wu-Yi Tea truly in scarce supply? Many of the more aggressively promoted brands of Wu-Yi tea stress that the tea is in very scarce supply and that you’d be one of the fortunate few if you managed to acquire some. The common sales pitch that you’ll find on many websites goes something like this… “Our company has access to an exclusive source for a special Wu-Yi tea that helps you burn fat effortlessly and melts the pounds right off you.” You’ll also find that numerous dubious written testimonials are peppered throughout the website, followed by a list of benefits attributed to their brand of tea, a warning that the tea is only available in limited supply and finally reasons as to why their tea is superior to any other brand. We wanted to understand how true the scarcity assertion actually is. If you Google "Wu-Yi tea, lose weight, diet, Oolong tea, etc." you will find an abundance of suppliers for the tea. Ad to that the fact that you can buy it on EBay, Amazon and at your local Chinese Grocery store for between $5.00 to $10.00 a box and I feel confident in saying that Wu-Yi tea is not in short supply. Summing it all up... Our conclusion then is that Oolong tea, along with its cousins - black and green tea - have wonderful mental and physical health benefits, but none of them are a "magic potion". Wu-Yi tea does indeed appear to have attributes which aid in increasing energy, supporting weight loss and aiding weight maintenance but the tea should not be purchased under any delusions that it will be a miracle cure. Our main concern is that many of the more aggressively promoted websites - such as www.wu-yisource.com and www.wulongforlife.com – exaggerate the benefits and scarcity of the tea to prey upon the chronic dieter's desperation to lose weight. Add to that the fact that many of these sites require you to sign up to their auto-ship program which ships and bills you for a new lot of their overpriced tea each and every month. Real Wu-Yi tea is certainly a good investment but be careful to do your research to get your best price for the real deal before buying yours!
