Hi.

My name is Jessica Seymour.

At the time I'm writing this, I'm 38 years young and have a fantastic family of 5 including Craig my handsome hubby, and our 3 boys - Conner, Alexander, and Trent.  That's us below in a recent picture.

I've been pretty active and physically fit for most of my life and didn't really have weight issues until I gave birth to our first son Trent just over 5 years ago. A year after giving birth to Trent, I still weighed 173 pounds and I was so embarrassed about how much I weighed that I knew I had to do something about it.

The extra weight made my sleep fitful, my ankles would swell up, and I would get headaches daily. Unfortunately though, my body had so many aches and pains that I couldn’t find the energy or will power to be more physically active, so I had to focus my efforts on diet.

My first choice, for no particular reason, was to try one of the Meal-Plan based programs - but that proved to be a short lived, eye opening experiment I’ll just call; “Can Guess what you’re eating now?” You can read about it further on down this page.

I then joined Jenny Craig, but that turned out to be a huge mistake for a number of reasons which you can read all about here

About six months after my Jenny Craig fiasco, I decided to give dieting another shot and signed up for Weight Watchers at the urging of a good friend whose father had seen good results with it. Learn more about my unsuccessful Weight Watchers experience here

The good news is that at the time of writing this letter, I weigh in at a healthy and happy 128 pounds, I've lost my belly and most of my butt and have maintained this weight within a couple of pounds for over two years now :-).

Me... Before and After

This despite my lack of success with Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig and Meal-Plan based diets.

My weight loss “secret weapon” that has worked wonders for me uses a unique approach called Calorie Shifting, But before we get into what is working for me, please take a few minutes to read more about my experience with the Meal-Plan based diet that I joined.

About Commercial Meal-Plan based diets…

Generally; the most popular meal-plan based commercial diet programs promote their products using extensive media advertising.  Many also use paid celebrity endorsements to validate their products.

The advertisments tend to focus on convincing potential customers that you can eat and enjoy all of the delicious foods that you desire and still lose boat loads of weight.

They say these amazing results can be acheived because they will provide you with all of the delicious, healthy and nutritious food that you need... in easy to prepare pre-portioned sizes.

Each program has its own differant spin as to why their product is better than the next - some focusing on nutritive value, some on taste and others focusing on price.

Ultimately what you are buying is convenience through the consumption of their calorie restricted prepackaged meals (approx. 1200 - 1500 calories per meal), which are definitely convenient and helpful in dealing with controlling your portion size.

The downsides are that many people do not like the food choices and that getting into the habit of buying your meals fails to prepare you "the dieter" for real world healthy food preparation once the diet ends.

Therefore, the keys to success with this type of diet program is to ensure that you can stomach the food and get through the transitional period where the dieter goes from prepackaged to regular, prepared meals.  That is unless you plan on eating prepackaged indefinitely, which is great if you can afford it and if that's what works for you.

My experience with Meal-Plan based diets…

Nutrisystem Nutrasystem

My foray into the diet world started with a Meal-Plan based diet program. It was short lived however and little did I know – the experience would prove to be reflective of the lack of success I would have over the next couple of years as I moved from this diet to Jenny Craig to Weight Watchers.

It all started on January 9th when in a joint effort to lose some weight together; my husband and I ordered a month's supply of pre-packaged Meal-Plan foods. The order arrived in 2 days and I was very excited to start losing weight!

Unfortunately, when I opened the boxes I was unpleasantly surprised.

The promotional materials promised...

  • Balanced meals?
Not until you go shopping for your own proteins, fruits and veggies to add to the meal. The portions are extremely small and expensive. A 3.42 oz. flatbread pizza costs $5.33, and you have to spread the sauce and cheese on yourself.
  • Delicious meals?
The food was horrible and so many of the products tasted the same. Many times my orders were substituted due to a lack of stock. The items that I had to prepare myself (pudding etc) turned out like school experiments. There were times when my husband and I couldn’t eat a particular food item because the smell or taste was so horrendous.
  • Good customer service?
You have to call to get a return authorization to return the meals and it’s very difficult to get through on the phone. I was on hold for 15 minutes and then was cut off, tried again, 30 minutes on hold then got cut off, third try and I was on hold for 25 minutes and finally got through.

T
he results...

My husband and I couldn’t get through even the first week of food because we just couldn’t stomach it. We shipped back 3 weeks of food and did get our money back (less their restocking fee) in 5 weeks.

My husband decided that as much as he wanted to support me in my efforts to lose weight, he’d be sticking to a regular diet from now on.

3 Key Learning’s…

1. If you are at all discerning about the taste and quality of your food, then the Meal-Plan based diet option may not be a good one for you.  Be sure to get your hands on some food samples beforehand.  Alternatively, place a small test order initially.

2. Keep in mind that these companies are most concerned with selling you their expensive food. While they may offer some online support and exercise guidance, etc.... the key component of their program is the food. My experience has proven that losing weight is about much more than just the food.

3. If convenience is what appeals to you about these programs; then you do have some good alternative options.  I would suggest that you can do much better by simply shopping wisely at your grocery store and picking up the new Weight Watchers line of food products for example, which are reasonably priced, much tastier and more nutritious in most cases.

My personal recommendation…

Unfortunately I can't recommend the Meal-Plan based type of dieting approach as the best way (or even a good way) to lose weight.

Sure you may lose some weight if you can stomach the food, but you could achieve the same results with better taste at much less cost by simply shopping at your grocery store, reading labels and picking items that allow you restrict your own diet down to the 1200 - 1500 calorie level.

I don't think that I was asking for too much by expecting a program that I could live  with, that fit my lifestyle, provided real world advice, good support and relevant industry expertise. This company couldn't even deliver enjoyable food, so I moved on.

As I mentioned earlier, after some trial and error I did finally find a program that I could work with and it's called “Fat Loss For Idiots”.

As the name implies, the“Fat Loss For Idiots” program really is idiot proof.

    • It works without you needing to radically change your lifestyle.
    • It uses a unique Calorie Shifting approach to teach you how and when to eat in order to turn your body into a fat burning furnace.
    • You eat real food, that tastes great and that you buy at your local grocery store for reasonable prices.
    • You eat 4-6 times per day, and NEVER feel hungry.

I'm not suggesting this is an eat anything you like, as much as you like plan...but it really is almost effortless, and as I outlined at the top of this letter, the results have been amazing for me!

You'll change your eating habits for life without even really trying.

That, combined with a real simple cardio plan worked wonders for me.

Ultimately, I guess I never really went on a "diet". I just changed my approach to eating for the better, which helped me increase my energy and lose a few pounds quickly, which enabled me to become more physically active.

It worked so well, that my husband tried the “diet thing” again and had even better success than I did! Together, we reached our goal weights and have been able to maintain it.

It's changed our lives...I hope it changes yours.

Best of luck, and please be sure to contact us to let us know about your success!!!

Yours sincerely,

J.Seymour
